Ways of Translating Precedent Phenomena (Based on the Movies “Wag the Dog” and “Vice”)

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to study and analyze precedent phenomena on the example of English-language feature films on political topics. The analysis of examples of used precedent phenomena is carried out, an overview of translation techniques used in the process of translation into Russian is given. In addition to the problems associated with the translation of precedent phenomena and the formulation of conclusions about the main ways of their translation, the article also provides their classification. When analyzing the examples of used precedent phenomena, the author used descriptive methods, methods of logical comparison and component analysis. The set tasks included the disclosure of basic terms, the analysis of examples of the use of precedent names and national precedent phenomena. The practical significance of the article lies in the possibility of using the results obtained in the process in the practice of lexicology and lexicography.
