Application of critical thinking technology in foreign language lessons

Abstract

The article is devoted to the use of technologies for the critical thinking development in foreign language lessons at school. The author analyzes the concept of “critical thinking”, lists the requirements for organizing the lesson using critical thinking technologies. Then the modular lesson and its stages are given where technology can be implemented. The author briefly describes in his article the most popular technologies for developing critical thinking. The following strategies and techniques are described: the method “6 hats of thinking”, the “cinquain” strategy, the “fishbone”, the strategy for solving the IDEAL problem, clusters, the strategy of “thin” and “thick” questions, the “conceptual wheel”, the interactive strategy “KWL Chart”. It describes how to work with each strategy and provides examples of its application in the lessons of English and German.
