Developing students’ communicative competence in the process of distance English language learning in higher school

Abstract

The article analyses the possibility of developing the communicative competence of students in the process of distance English learning in higher school. The aim of the article is to highlight the advantages and disadvantages of the method of distance learning through the past period of the pandemic, as well as the possibilities of improving this format for higher efficiency index. The article is devoted to group classes in educational institutions of higher education. The list of methods used in this article includes an analysis of the feedback of students and teachers of the South Ural State Humanitarian Pedagogical University about the past online classes. As a result, the most frequent problems appearing in the process of distance learning, which prevented the development of students' communicative competence, were identified and described. The solutions to these problems are suggested in the paper, as well as programs to improve the process of distance learning. The article stresses the special role of the motivational component of the educational process for both students and teachers. The authors conclude that the development of communication skills may be effective if the teacher has the time and desire for careful preparation for online classes, as well as for the use of modern teaching methods.
