Abstract

The article is devoted to the heroic defense of the city of Liepaja (Libava) of the Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic (now the Republic of Latvia) in the early days of the Great Patriotic War. The military significance of the defense of the city is revealed, and the political significance that has taken place is considered. The resistance of the North-Western Front is described, which, thanks to the courage of Soviet soldiers and civil defenders of the city, fought for eight days with one of the strongest divisions of the enemy as a result of which the enemy suffered significant losses. The displayed heroism of the Soviet people who spared no effort and life itself to stop the enemy was noted. Eternal memory to the fallen and survivors. For the edification of all descendants how to fight for their freedom. Know your rights, defend them and never again allow the manifestation of Nazism in any form.
